SMS Alert Terms
Effective date: 2026-04-23
These SMS Alert Terms govern text message communications sent through the Beacon Safe Alerts program, operated by Copperline Labs LLC (doing business as Beacon Safe). These terms are separate from and in addition to our general Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Program Description
Beacon Safe is a personal safety check-in app. When a Beacon user sets a timed check-in and fails to check back in before the timer expires, the system sends automated safety alert notifications via SMS to their pre-designated emergency contacts. These are transactional safety alert messages — not marketing or promotional messages.
How Consent Works
Beacon Safe uses a user-initiated, double opt-in consent process. Beacon Safe's infrastructure does not send any SMS, MMS, or other message to an emergency contact until that contact has personally visited a consent form and submitted explicit written opt-in. Enabling SMS alerts is entirely optional — Beacon users can operate the app with email-only notifications.
When a Beacon user adds an emergency contact, the following consent process occurs:
- Contact added in-app: The Beacon user adds an emergency contact inside the Beacon Safe app.
- Unique consent URL generated: The app generates a unique,
tokenized consent URL of the form
https://beaconsafe.app/confirm/<token>tied to that specific contact. - User-initiated share: The Beacon user shares that URL with the emergency contact from their own device using the iOS native share sheet (typically iMessage, WhatsApp, email, or another messaging app of the user's choice). Beacon Safe's servers and toll-free number do not send any SMS or message at this stage.
- Backup transactional email: As a non-SMS backup path, Beacon Safe's
servers send a single transactional email to the emergency contact (from
alerts@mail.beaconsafe.app, delivered via our email provider) containing the same consent URL, so the contact has an alternate way to reach the form. - Branded consent form: The emergency contact clicks the link and
lands on a Beacon Safe-branded consent form hosted at
beaconsafe.app. The form identifies the Beacon user by name, identifies Beacon Safe and Copperline Labs LLC as the sender, and discloses the purpose of the messages. - Separate, unchecked TCPA consents: The form presents two independent checkboxes — one for SMS safety alerts and one for automated voice calls. Both are unchecked by default and must be affirmatively ticked by the contact. The submit button is disabled until at least one checkbox is selected.
- Full TCPA disclosure: Directly above the submit button, the form displays the disclosure: "Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe, HELP for help." Links to these SMS Alert Terms and the Privacy Policy are also shown.
- Immutable consent record: On submission, the contact's explicit
opt-in is captured in an immutable
consent_logtable recording the timestamp, IP address, User-Agent, Referer, form version, and the exact checkbox labels shown to the contact at the time of consent. These records are retained for 6 years. - SMS becomes eligible only after submission: Only after the emergency contact submits the consent form does the Beacon Safe toll-free number become eligible to send SMS safety alerts to that contact. No alert SMS is sent before this step.
Emergency contacts can revoke consent at any time by replying STOP to any message.
Message Frequency
Message frequency varies based on the user's check-in timer activity and alert escalation settings. Typically 1–5 messages per alert event. If a user remains overdue, alert events may recur daily for up to 7 days, after which message frequency decreases. Messages are only sent when a safety check-in timer expires without the user checking in.
Message and Data Rates
Standard message and data rates may apply to messages sent to and from emergency contacts, depending on their mobile carrier and plan. Copperline Labs does not charge any additional fees for SMS alert delivery.
Opt-Out
Recipients can reply STOP to any alert message at any time to opt out of future SMS notifications from Beacon Safe. After opting out, the recipient will receive a single confirmation message and no further SMS messages will be sent. Note that opting out of SMS may prevent delivery of critical safety alerts via text message.
Help
Recipients can reply HELP to any message for assistance and support contact information. You can also contact us directly at support@beaconsafe.app.
Supported Carriers
SMS alerts are delivered via our toll-free messaging platform. Most major US carriers are supported. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
